Understanding Employer Sponsorship in Malaysia

For many foreign professionals, the Malaysian employer is central to the work-authorisation process.

Why employer sponsorship matters

A Malaysian organisation normally needs an eligible role, appropriate company status and documents supporting the proposed employment.

Verify the opportunity

Confirm the employer’s legal name, workplace, contact person and written job description. Review salary, hours, deductions, benefits and termination terms.

Prepare candidate documents

Common items include a passport, CV, academic certificates, professional qualifications and employment references.

No legitimate guarantee

Recruitment, employer approval and immigration approval are separate decisions. No consultant can ethically guarantee a job or visa outcome.

Questions to ask

  • Who is the legal employer?
  • Which authorisation category is proposed?
  • Who pays each official cost?
  • When should travel be booked?
